Rot reads your sitemap's lastmod dates and sorts your site by how long it has been since anyone touched each page. It is the cheapest possible content audit — no account, no crawl of your whole site.

- My sitemap has no lastmod dates. Now what?
- Then nothing here can tell you how old a page is, and Rot says exactly that. Emitting real lastmod values is itself the first fix — most frameworks can do it from your CMS or file dates.
- Is old content automatically bad?
- No. A reference page that is still correct can sit untouched for years. The list is a starting point for a decision, not a to-do list.
- How many pages does it read?
- Up to 2,000 URLs from your sitemap, including one level of sitemap index. Larger sites get the first slice and a note saying so.
